SpotsuDuring the Jacksonian Era many changes were made in America for better or worse. These changes included the expansion of America, changing of laws, and the election of President Andrew Jackson. Jackson was a very active president who used his presidential perks to the fullest in order to make his version of an ideal America and help the general population benefit while the minorities suffered. The Jacksonian Era’s rapid expansion benefited whites by expanding their economic and political liberty at the expense of Native Americans and African Americans.2015-11-11 22:58:41
SpotsuWhites were able to benefit from Jacksonian Expansion by increasing their economic and political status. Whites’ economic status was increase by Jackson’s Indian Removal act, which displace tens of thousands of Native Americans and allowed for millions of acres to be available. This new land was primarily taken over by farmers due to the birth of the cash crop cotton through the use of the cotton gin. Cotton was now extremely profitable and needless to say extremely popular now being that highest rate of production when compared to other crops during the time. SpotsuThe liberties gained by the whites were a large expense to the African Americans. The westward expansion of America allowed for more land for plantations. Plantations that needed workers and the only workers that were economically viable were slaves. With the new land and the invention of the cotton gin slavery was revived and was necessary for plantation owners in order to increase their wealth. Along with this international slave trade had been banned so domestic trade thrived blurring the vision of the negative impacts slavery had. SpotsuArguably group that least benefited from the Jacksonian Era were the Native Americans. Native Americans were completely sriken of their liberty. The idea of manifest destiny, that God himself had given whites’ America and that Native Americans had no right to it. This idea was used by the Supreme Court in the case of Johnson v. M’Intosh in 1823. The court concluded that Native Americans only had a “right of occupancy” and could be moved by the americans wherever they see fit. These irrational decisions made by the supreme court were also backed up by the executive branch and more importantly the president himself, who enacted the Indian Removal Act.2015-11-11 22:58:08

The Cherokee were a not only a Native American tribe but a tribe that had a big role in adopting american culture and modeling that of everyday citizens. They wrote and followed laws, created schools, and made their own constitution. However, even though they mirrored that of republican citizen they were still treated with hostility.
