Cast a 2nd level spell on the second enemy, miss him entirely because it requires an attack roll and hits the neighbors hell hound. I have to resort to the spell scroll mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with a 8th level lightning bolt spell, "Roll for initiative" The spell obliterates two men in the blast, the sound and cleave damage set off alarm spells. Cast flame blade and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He fails his death saving throws out waiting on the local guard to arrive since I didn't declare the damage to be nonlethal.
