BishmanrockAgreed. The limiting of games to one marketplace really annoys me. The segregation of games is unhealthy for the market, and only serves to alienate customers. Origin and uPlay were late to the scene and offered nothing to the customer, it was just a way for the companies to exhibit control over their products. I'd rather have a more open market not ran by the companies (similar to how I think TV & film should be managed).2021-06-28 10:50:48
Mallo@Bishmanrock Ultima Underworld I & II were the first games I ever bought on GOG. Also already have Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars on GOG, so am covered on those. Didn't know they were going to be removed, but it's EA, so I wouldn't put anything past them. Just reading about their removal now... Doesn't say why, but probably so EA can make them Origin only. I don't use Origin. It's the same as UPlay - extraneous and unworthy.2021-06-28 06:39:50
BishmanrockPatenting the Nemesis system was just a really arrogant move. Also, some of the online functionality of the game has since been turned off (it's minor, but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth). I hate tacked on online functionality that requires online servers. Not sure you're interested, but I saw Ultima Underworld 1+2, Syndicate, and Syndicate Wars are on GOG for dirt cheap and are due to get removed soon, so if you have interest in any of them worth grabbing before they vanish.2021-06-26 10:42:16
MalloI did buy Dusk and Blade Runner on GOG last week. And am planning to buy Amid Evil too. Non-DRM is the way to go.2021-06-26 09:44:20
MalloI don't buy Ubisoft because of UPlay, or EA for their lootboxes. Toxic publishers are the scourge of the industry.2021-06-26 09:42:46
MalloWas going to buy Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition in the Summer Sale, but then I realised that it was Warner Bros. Games who notoriously patented their "Nemesis" system earlier this year, which sets a terrible precedent for game development. So f**k it. I'm not buying it. Companies like WBG can eff off.2021-06-26 09:41:04
MalloSo GOG Galaxy 2 went public this week and showed why it's better than Steam. Looks better; works better. Get it installed and link it to your Steam account!2020-01-26 14:43:54
BishmanrockOof, only just had chance to see it. It feels very big, cluttered, and in my face. I like the introduction of some of the elements though, so hopefully they'll continue to refine it and not wait another 10 years.2019-11-03 05:47:22
MalloThe new Steam looks suspiciously like the one GOG have had in beta for months. I get the feeling that Valve is trying to get a march on CD Projekt with this new update. It runs slower on my machine and keep freezing the client too. Joy. Not a great start.2019-10-31 11:15:16
MalloBish: yeah, you're one of two friends I currently have on there.2018-09-19 05:46:56
BishmanrockApparently we're already friends on it, so I must've been misremembering!2018-09-19 03:15:45
BishmanrockBeen a while since I used GOG Galaxy - used it when it first launched and it felt a bit redundant. However, I've always got time for anything GOG do. They didn't even have a friends system last time I tried it, I think you could view profiles but not add. I do like how cautious they were with the social media elements. I'll get it set back up and add you. You used the GOG connect thing that pulls through some Steam games? Thought that was a genius idea.2018-09-19 03:15:01
MalloDefected to GOG.com for a while recently. Their last sale was excellent. Their GOG Galaxy client has improved too. So I've been giving them some love.Bought a few classics for buttons in the last sale - F.E.A.R., Crysis, Far Cry (second time I've bought it), Undying, Nox, Daikatana, Giants: Citzen Kabuto. My wishlist has quadrupled in size too. I've never been one for putting my eggs in one basket (why make one company all-powerful?), and there are also good reasons for buying some games on GOG, rather than Steam (no DRM or UPlay). GOG also has some pretty good exclusives.Anyway, if you're on GOG: add me to your friends. I'm Mallo on there (surprise, surprise).2018-09-18 08:49:44
BishmanrockYeah, I remember W2 looked a bit dated when I saw it, not sure how long after release that actually was though. I didn't watch a lot but the plot and dialogue didn't seem particularly engaging or interesting either, everything just felt a bit generic and by the numbers. I'll have to grab W3, not sure how much longer I can put it off!2018-09-08 07:32:55
MalloProbably the biggest difference between The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 is the character modelling and animation - especially with regard to eyes. The animation of faces and expressions, eye contact, and facial muscles is genuinely astounding. Groundbreaking, even. In The Witcher 2 all the faces just look dead and expressionless.2018-09-07 16:17:13
MalloBish: I played The Witcher 3 solidly from April to July, completing all but one quest in the game* and all the DLCs (the DLCs are astounding by the way - the highlight of the game) and - having had a few weeks to let it all sink in after completing the game - I have to say that a) it is the best game I've ever played, and b) it makes The Witcher 2 look like gash. I'm glad I didn't see it before I played TW3... The Witcher 3 really is a masterpiece of writing, interface design, drama, and atmospherics. It's not perfect - there are a few small things that could have been improved, but as an overall experience The Witcher 3 is just magificent! It's also a wonderfully emotional game with some tough moral dilemmas. I can't recommend it enough.*=That one quest is a very last Gwent tourny. It's not necessary for an achievement, or to complete the game, and is notoriously difficult, so I just never bothered. :-)2018-09-07 16:08:43
BishmanrockI'm so glad you posted that. I saw someone playing Witcher 2 on 360 years back and honestly thought it looked absolutely gash, which is one of the main reasons I'd never bothered with Witcher 3 out of fear it was more of the same2018-09-07 16:00:00
MalloThe Witcher 2 is... horrible. Compared to W3, that is. Not sure if I can play it after the magnificence of W3.2018-09-07 12:40:39
MalloI've changed my mind about Gwent... But - ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ takes a long time to assemble a decent deck... What the game doesn't do too well is explain assembling a good deck, either in terms of adding/removing to cards to decks, or that you have to beat all the minnow players first, before moving on to players with better decks. As a game, Gwent is very good. Very strategic, with an element of "bluff the AI with some weak cards, then ♥♥♥♥ it with some strong ones". Knowing when to pass early on helps too. I was wrong about Gwent, but getting competitive meant a lot of frustration beforehand. So my advice to new Gwent players would be: identify and beat all the lower players as quickly as possible, before taking on the noticable tougher ones found later in the game.2018-07-01 10:53:26
MalloThe biggest problem with The Witcher 3? Gwent. Without a strong deck your opponets will often whomp you. You put a six down, they play a protected 12. It takes too long to gather a decent deck, and even while trying hard to collect one it's not at all obvious where the good cards are. I'm not only tired of it, but it's stopping me playing the game, because of potential quest failures (eg. auto failing Gotta Collect 'Em All if you don't win the Gwent tournament in A Matter of Life and Death). I've decided: I'm going to ignore all the Gwent-based achievements and plough on without playing Gwent. The balance of Gwent versus the quests is all wrong in my opinion. It should be much easier to collect at least a half decent deck. Black mark against the game.2018-06-29 19:18:38
MalloPretty sure they were just cards Bish. Woke up this morning and saw two of them, new in my inventory. Also saw two new Bastion cards in my inventory earlier in the week, and haven't played that for years either. At first I thought it might have been a Steam update glitch, or possibly old card drops being shown as new. But then I wondered if my account had been used nefariously. Can't see any recent play time on either Team Fortress 2 of Bastion recently, so not sure what might have caused it. Certainly no point asking Steam support - if I want a response this year.2018-06-21 13:43:21
BishmanrockWere they cards or card packs? I know the packs drop randomly. Cards, not sure. I know a while back when they were introduced some of the card drops were backdated so to speak, but I'm not under the impression that should be happening now at all.2018-06-21 13:36:59
MalloI got two card drops for Team Fortress 2 last night, but haven't launched it for years. Anyone else had any strange card drops recently, or has my account been hacked? Considering that a) my password is very complex, and b) I use Steam Guard, it's unlikely to be the latter.2018-06-20 21:04:20
MalloEvery time I upload two screenshots to Steam, using the Screenshot Uploader, Steam crashes. Every time. I'm getting sick of it. Does anyone else have this problem?2018-06-15 20:07:01
MalloThank ♥♥♥♥ for that: found my Witcher 3 screenshots! The Steam directory structure is dire... WTF kind of location is this? H:\Steam\userdata\10152817\760\remote\292030\screenshots2018-06-05 01:11:04
MalloFour corrupt files in The Witcher 3 directory as well, after a validation. FML. I haven't even run the game since the BSD either. Scared to. Dammit!!!!2018-06-04 23:41:48
MalloBSD while playing The Witcher 3 - screwed three hard drives, my desktop icons, and (sigh) lost all my local screenshots. They just disappeared! Spent all day scanning hard drives, fixing bad sectors, and trying to get things working again. Very, VERY unimpressed.2018-06-04 23:18:26
MalloNever laughed so much at dialogue in a video game as I have done with The Witcher 3. Asking a Scottish dwarf about needing some special light armour, crafted by a master, and he says: "Are you sure you don't want it to wipe your arse after you've had a ♥♥♥♥♥ in the bushes?" Ah, this game is killing me. Has to be the best-written game of all time. Or: one of them.2018-05-31 17:05:14
BishmanrockSometimes I think that's a good thing though. I cleaned mine down a while back because it was getting cumbersome, but I kinda wish I'd left it. There's stuff I'd completely forgot about, but rediscovering them, now devoid of any outside hype, is sometimes the best way to finally have a crack at them. Most of my purchases these days are based solely on what's discounted on my wishlist, and I find that works pretty well.2018-02-24 04:50:04
MalloThere are games on my wishlist that have been on there for years. And I will probably never buy them.2018-02-23 17:09:36
MalloJust started a new video gaming blog. Here: https://thekingofgrabs.wordpress.com/ I'll fight anyone who says they can take better grabs than me! :-D2017-12-25 15:42:19
MalloBSD while downloading The Witcher 3. Good start. And I've not even started yet.2017-10-31 13:17:50
MalloQuite excited to be joining the realms of The Witcher 3 gaming world. Finally. Heard many good things about it. A 10-hour download though. Damn. That'll be tomorrow, then.2017-10-31 06:08:50
MalloRequested my first ever refund... Quake. Screen settings don't work properly (unless you replace Steam files with alternative files, which I am not prepared to do). I don't care how little it costs, or how old the game is, if it doesn't work 'out of the box' on here, it can get to F***. Easier setting up and playing in bloody DOSBox. AND it buggers your desktop display up after launching and closing GLQuake. Very poor. Don't waste your money or time.2017-07-02 12:05:28
MalloWhen a follower in Skyrim bumps into you when you're taking aim with a bow, and miss... Maybe it's revenge for them being pack mules and cannon fodder?2017-03-27 18:17:39
BishmanrockHope you feel better soon mate, no games is no fun!2016-12-29 15:33:55
MalloToo ill to play games.2016-12-28 18:02:11
MalloJust lost another character in Santuary RPG. I may weep. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate permadeath! Aaaargh! Great game though [sob]2016-12-12 19:20:05
MalloDarkest Dungeon is a brilliant game, but I can't play it any more, because it's so damn unfair. Possibly the most unfair gaming experience ever!2016-11-12 11:31:35
MalloTeleglitch is a tough ♥♥♥♥♥.2015-12-24 14:10:16
Mallo♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Morrowind is driving me nuts on PC. It's making me want to go back and play the XBox version, which is SO much easier and enjoyable to play than this version...2015-06-22 17:47:18
MalloThat Achievement Showcase at the top of my profile is wrong. I've got 3 perfect games, not 2 - it's missing out Half-Life 2: Episode Two for some reason. Bah.2014-12-22 22:01:40
MalloPassed 10 years of service recently. When I first tried Steam in 2004 I hated it. It took Half Life 2 to change my mind. Steam's come a long way since then.2014-12-12 22:32:40
MalloTyler, we should try some multiplayer Portal 2.2012-01-20 21:43:25
MalloPlaying Skyrim, RAGE, and Portal 2 at the moment. Spolt for choice.2012-01-20 21:42:42
