| Sinistrality | Seems like they might be on track for an early 2014 launch if things progress smoothly. A lot of questions they should start answering though. Are they in negotiations with major companies to start porting games to Linux en masse OR is it a Valve OS with a Linux kernel and companies will have to program specifically for it (like an actual console)? Both have some drawbacks compared to the other and both also require broad developer support. Ideally, they would probably want the whole Steam library available to users from Day 1, but that won't happen either without more Linux titles available or planning on installing Windows immediately after buying the system. A Windows install is simple enough, but not what casual gamers expect from a turn-key solution. | Sinistrality | Agreed. Co-op is done best when it is seamless when you want it and entirely optional for those who prefer single-player. I don't see any reason why smart game designers can't craft a solid single player experience as well as a co-op one that adds something to that experience (and hopefully the storyline). Dead Space 3 seems to strike that balance.The downfall of multiplayer is...well, other people. That is why I try to play multiplayer games with people I know. | Sinistrality | I'm a really big fan of co-op, so I was willing to sacrifice some of the 'alone in the dark' aspect. I even supported EA adding cooperative wave defense multiplayer to Mass Effect. Giving people the option to play the game with their friends in addition to providing a stand-alone single player experience is, in my humble opinion, a very good trend in the industry.I also prefer cooperative multiplayer to competitive online play anyday. If it challenges me to play something on a harder difficulty, explore side quests, complete the campaign, etc then I think they are a great way to record your gameplay experience.
