In the case of a single sheet of triangles (like a cloth sheet) what's been told to me by DE's artists is that you need to make two, one side and the other (face up and face down) with almost no distance in between. Usually in game engines this same thing is achieved with just one sheet of triangles with a back faced culled shader or double side, both ways are perfectly fine but my guess is that Warframe's Evolution Engine is way better in handling vertex numbers than most so it's lighter for all the platforms if they don't use a double side shader that requires more rendering power (the double sided one). They asked me to change it lots of times for over a year and in the end i've decided to do a new one cause the previous one wasn't really fixable without making it look very different from the original idea. In my experience "in between" designs are never great so i'm very sure that the "fixed" version of Saturnia wasn't going to make anybody happy or excited, it would have looked like a mediocre product at best.So i've taken all the feedback from DE and you guys and made a new skin entirely with it :) This way we can all be happy with the results! The truth is you can go quite far with your sculpting but everything gets projected back into the base model surface and the normal map allows only for a finite amount of depth (more than a cerain amount it wouldnt be visible due to the limited color range of the map itself) so you shouldn't go too far if you don't have the 3d surface to back it up. This is a subject that requires a lot of hours and effort to be learned so unless i'll follow you like a mentorship it will be impossible for you to get better just by having a few questions answered when i can find the time. What can i do though is to suggest you to find some online courses or tutorials about the tools you want to use, especially for the use you want to use them like learning how to make a game asset. To get into modeling you can pick up a free software like Blender and follow some tutorials, you can find lots of great guides on youtube. If you want to try sculpting (yeah, it's a different thing) check out Sculptris also free. All the things i've said before also apply. Making an object that fits into an already existing world is one of the most important things and best exercize you can do for learning this practice. You also have to learn how to texture and it takes a ton of time. | Hitsu San | Tips to getting into modding? If artworks is what you're talking about then you have to learn a few things like general 3d skills and texturing. Then it's easier than you might think you can start by choosing any game you like and make an asset (model - object) that fits into that game world as a practice, you don't have to publish it or try to put it into the game at the beginning. Another thing you can find useful is to choose a sandbox type game where you can make your assets and having them into the game for free right away (Skyrim, Space Engineers, Garry's Mod ecc). Games like Warframe or Dota2 and others have a quality control in place because there's money involved so you might get discouraged if your objects are not approved. You will get a lot of feedback-criticism and you have to learn to not take it personally but look at it as a chance to improve.
