| UneasyBoosh | True, I didn't see that while playing though, anymore than a cyberpunk world or Gotham is nihilistic. I just felt it was very frank about things or maybe centrist without rose tinted glasses for any one idea. IE: the games ultraliberals want you to think they are fighting for the people but in game are represented by a corrupt mob style union. It should be said its really just a good detective story in a strange and interesting fully developed world, politics are part of that world they have created. But cool.I will say though, even the setting itself can sometimes be heavy-handed. A nihilistic setting is often worse than preachy characters. When an author believes the world is meaningless if not outright evil by nature, it basically doesn't matter what the characters do or think or say. I just wanted to say I also had the same concerns as you did before playing. As some said it doesn't promote a specific ideology. You are a drunk cop in a dirty world, it does have politics in it they are all described in realistic outcomes. It gives you the choice if you want your character to have one of the 4 ideological leanings(one being, "I don't have one") At no point did I feel "preached at" which I was expecting. Its amazingly unique and if you don't mind a heavy read. As a gamer I wouldn't want someone to miss out on this gem of a game because of some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ takes. I personally went back to see exactly what they said "I also want to thank Marx and Engels for providing us the political education" Since the game explores the bad outcomes of Communists in the game it could easily be that this influenced the political nature of the game not that they are Marxists. | 2020-01-05 19:05:48 |
