JasparoTotally agree I am starting to sound like my old man, who actually has my old boardgames up in his loft. Although Im an old codger my youngest offspring is only 4 and I already have him into Airfix soldiers which I have bought on line, he now wants a castle for his birthday and more soldiers, plus I have provided him with lots of Marvel HeroClix figures which he enjoys. I could be moulding a mini me :)2014-04-16 14:33:08
StrategikalLOL! I was lucky, there was a game shop in my city that specialised in wargames, but often I had to order things they didn't have in stock. We're starting to sound like a couple of old codgers from that Monty Python sketch... "I used to get up half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of coal for breakfast, work a 30 hour day... Try telling that to the youngsters of today, and they won't believe you!"2014-04-16 14:10:40
JasparoGeez that Spectrum zx game Lord of the Rings which could take nearly 10 mins to load and would ultimately crash at last minute, so frustrating. Struggle to understand these young uns and their impatience, I agree they do not know they are born. I remember spending ages setting up some of SPI or Avalon Hill board games up and either the cat, dog or my mother catching it and sending pieces everywhere, damn. Where I lived too you had to mail order board games often taking many weeks to arive, never mind waiting a few minutes for a download, aahhh must be getting old :) and yes I remember the Dragon, good old days...2014-04-16 13:42:47
StrategikalI've been playing wargames even longer than that, starting with Avalon Hill's Panzer Blitz back in 1979. And I owned a Dragon 32 computer (remember those?) before buying a Spectrum. On the Dragon I actually had to type in all the code from a computer magazine in order to play a game, and there was no way of saving it, so I'd have to type it all in again the next time I wanted to play it.And don't get me started on sometimes loading a Spectrum game from a cassette, if you were lucky. Oh the bad old days...Kids these days don't know they're born, complaining about frame rates less than 60fps, 3D graphics that don't look 100% realistic, Steam being offline for 10 minutes... They don't realise how lucky they are to have problems like this. I wish I'd had these kinds of problems 35 years ago! My main problem nowadays is finding the time to play all the amazing games I've got now!2014-04-16 13:37:27
