At each end of a chromatid, there's a large area that doesn't code for anything, this region (called a telomere) actually is just a "meaningless" line (of repetitive "letters" or nucleotides) whose function it is to protect the DNA that codes for things. You see, every time DNA replicates, there are extra ends left over after replication. So, every time DNA replicates, DNA is shortened just a tiny bit. So, if you have sex with a family member, these "bad spots" are likely to be reinforced strongly since there's a much higher chance that both of the people have that same "bad spot." However, incest causing deformities is more rare than people think. With what scientists have studied, deformities are caused by incest about 2% of the time, others will argue 4%. So, it's a low rate compared to what we assume. This is, of course, a higher chance than marrying (& having sex w/) not-direct family.I'm glad I could help! I've found it the easiest to teach children using small punnett squares. It's the same way we learned, sure. If the child isn't old enough to understand the abstract representation, perhaps they're not old enough to learn the basis of genetics. My 8 year old brother was able to grasp the abstract representation (using BB, bb, and Bb). Hm, this is interesting. Mutations can cause bad things, but they can also cause good things. You could argue both ways. Most mutations don't actually cause anything at all. (Just a side note, it's "dominant," not "dominate" genes.) And singles would not be recessive genes. Dominant & recessive genes can't be shown correctly easily. You could do red vs. black cards but then all the cards would have to be in pairs, and this makes it more difficult to display and definitely takes a lot more time. Again, note that recessive genes do not vanish unless all the organisms with the recessive gene were to die. For example, if red cards were recessive genes and black cards were dominant genes, for the recessive gene to vanish, all the organisms with the red cards would have to die, which is obviously likely to kill all of them.
